Miss Pellin's Post
February 27th to March 2nd
Please note that on Tuesday, February 28th students will be dismissed early at 11:00 a.m. There will also be no school on Monday, March 5th due to Casimir Pulaski Day! Casimir Pulaski, known as the father of American Calvary, was recommended to George Washington by Ben Franklin while Ben was in France. Washington immediately put Pulaski in charge of the Revolutionary Armies Calvary. Pulaski's cavalry saved the day at the battle of Brandywine!

ISAT testing will begin on Wednesday, March 7th. Here is some advice from Principal Schultz.
Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the ISATs:

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to directions
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c. Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers

The Eighth Week of 2012 at School:

Science: We will continue the study of space in chapter 10.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago.  Students will learn about Chicago's World Fair in 1893 where people saw the first ferris wheel!  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  The next test will be in the week of March 5th.

Spelling: We will not have spelling this week. We will work on vocabulary and word building activities this week.

Reading: We will focus on reviewing all reading strategies next week as we prepare for the ISATs. We will also practice writing the extended response.  The February reading calendar is due on Thursday, March 1st.

English: This week we will work on writing from a different point of view.  Students will write about how the Chicago Fire started from the O'Leary cow's point of view.

Math: There will be a chapter 22 test on Monday, February 27th.  We will then work on probability in chapter 7 and we will review concepts we have learned this year.  Students will work on problem solving and t-charts as well.  There will be a division by 3 test on Friday, March 2nd. Students should be studying their division by 3 facts every night.
