We will not have school on Monday, September 7th. Have a great Labor Day!
This week students will take the reading and math MAP tests on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th, respectively.
The Third Week of School:
Science: This week we will focus on social studies.
Social Studies: On Tuesday, students will get a chance to go on a direction scavenger hunt around the building to find a prize! Then we will begin our study of continents and oceans.
Math: My math class will be following a fourth grade curriculum using our new math program, Bridges. Although we will be following the fourth grade curriculum, we will be interweaving third grade concepts as needed. This information will be determined by pretests. There will also be some enrichment with the introduction of fifth grade concepts.
We will continue our study of Module 1 which focuses on multiplication and division. Students will begin to take timed multiplication tests. We will begin with multiplication by 2. They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems. The first test will be on Tuesday, September 15th. Students who pass on Tuesday, September 15th will receive the full amount of points (13/13). If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass. Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.
English Language Arts: This week we will begin our first unit of study, Tales as Old as Time. This unit of study includes folktales, fairy tales, myths, legends, tall tales, and fables. I will be using the story Mulan to model different reading strategies and then students will read good fit books. We will begin the Daily 5.
