September 11th - September 15th
Happy Friday! I would like to remind you to check your child's assignment notebook every night and sign it. This a great form of communication and students can earn pennies.
Below are pictures of the students squeezing toothpaste onto a plate. The students then tried to put the toothpaste back into the tube. The toothpaste represented words we say to one another. We talked about how we cannot take back the words we say, just like the students could not put all of the toothpaste back into the tube. We discussed how it is important to choose our words wisely and make sure they are kind. We completed this activity on August 29th, but I often refer to it throughout the year.
The Upcoming Week of School:
Science: We will focus on social studies this week.
Social Studies: We will learn about the continents and oceans. Students are creating a presentation on a continent or ocean of their choice.
Math: We will continue our study of Module 1 which focuses on multiplication and division. Students will begin to take timed multiplication tests. We will begin with multiplication by 2. They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems. The first test will be on Wednesday, September 13th. Students who pass on Wednesday, September 13th will receive the full amount of points (10/10). If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 9/10 if they pass. Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.
In the your child's math google classroom, I have posted the Home Connection Workbook and the Student Workbook. Students can use these pages as a resource if they forget to take their homework home. Students also have been given a username and password for xtramath to practice their math facts. They can find the link to xtramath in the math google classroom as well.
Spelling: Students were given their list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities. Students should complete 3 activities. The activities they complete should be turned in on Friday, September 15th. The spelling test will also be on Friday, September 15th. The test will include 15 words from the student's list (teacher's choice) and 2 sentences, using any of their 2 words.
