September 9th- September 13th
I really enjoyed seeing everyone at Curriculum Night! Please check your child's planner everyday this trimester. I'm seeing a lot of signatures - thank you!
The Third Week of School:
Science: We will be studying ecosystems in chapter 4.

Math: We will work on place value and problem solving in chapter 1.
On Monday, September 16th students will be tested on their basic math addition facts. Students will need to complete 40 addition problems (adding numbers ranging from 1 to 10) in 2 minutes. Students should be reviewing the addition math facts before the test. We will take practice tests everyday leading up to the test. If a student passes a practice test, they will not have to take the final test.
Spelling: This week in spelling we will work on List 3. This list will focus on words with more short vowels.
Monday - List 3 pretest
Monday - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday - ABC Order
Wednesday - Challenge: Spelling sentences
Non-challenge: Write each word 3 times
Friday - Final testReading: Next week we will continue to teach the students how to utilize the essential reading strategies. In our classes we will demonstrate how the application of these strategies will maximize student comprehension of a range of literary materials. Students will also work on their reading stamina for reading to self and reading to someone, which are both components of our Daily 5 reading program. In your child's reading folder you will find a MAP testing sheet. This includes your child's lexile number. You can go to www.lexile.com and enter your child's lexile range to help find good fit books.
English: We will begin to study sentences in unit 1. We did not have a chance to start unit 1 last week. Students will be able to tell the difference between statements, questions, commands, and exclamation sentences. We will also be working on Daily Oral Language. Each day students will correct sentences from the board. This week students will be correcting end marks and capitalizing proper nouns.
