March 19th to March 23rd
There will not be school on Tuesday, March 20th due to a teacher's institute day. Monday, March 26th is the beginning of Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, April 2nd. Have a great week!!
The Eleventh Week of 2012 at School:
Science: We will study the phases of the moon in lesson 2 of chapter 10.
Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago. Students will learn about the many different cultures in Chicago.
Spelling: This week we will work on spelling list 17. There will be a test on Friday, March 23rd.
Reading: Our class will focus on nonfiction text (Science and Social Studies books) over the next couple weeks. We will summarize and identify main ideas. In addition, we will be practicing our fluency with various reader's theater scripts. Each student will also begin choosing their own vocabulary words from their Good Fit Books. They will learn the definition, find a synonym and antonym, and draw a picture to show the meaning of the word. Then they will be quizzed orally to determine if they have actually learned the word's meaning.
English: This week we will begin the study of chapter 5 in our English book which focuses on capitalization and punctuation.
Math: We will continue the study of fractions in chapter 18. There will be a chapter 18 test on Wednesday, April 4th. We will also have a division by 6 test on Friday, March 23rd. Look for a study guide to come home.
Things to Remember:
Tuesday 3/20: There will not be school due to a teacher's institute day.
Friday 3/23: There will be a spelling test and a division test.
