March 3rd – March 7th

We are beginning the final trimester of school this week! Report cards for the second trimester will be sent home on Tuesday, March 11. There will be no school for Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday, March 14th. Please make sure that you have completed your conference form and send it back to school with your child. Have a great day off Monday, March 3rd in honor of Casimir Pulaski Day.
The family book club committee has started Family Book Club Night. This is an excellent way to improve your child's reading comprehension. The registration forms went home last week. Please look it over and give it some serious consideration.
ISAT week is approaching! Look in your child's binder for an ISAT packet. This packet can be used for extra practice. It would be great if you could look over/work on this packet with your child!
On Friday, February 29th we will all wear our shirts backwards (so we can see where we’ve been)!
The Ninth Week of 2008 at School:
English: We will continue to study adjectives this week. On Wednesday, March 5th there will be an adjective quiz. An Adjective Review worksheet is due on Tuesday, March 4th. Then we will move on to adverbs. We will also work on preparation tests for the Illinois Scholastic Achievement Tests.
Spelling: This week instead of a spelling list we will work on prefixes and suffixes. There will be a quiz on Friday, March 7th.
Reading: We will continue to work on extended responses. This week students will complete an extended response independently. We will read the story Stone Fox. We will also work on reading comprehension questions. In addition, we will be working in our Test Ready booklet practicing reading comprehension from short passages.
Math: We will continue multiplication. This week’s mad minutes will focus on a review of all multiplication facts that we have learned thus far. Students will practice these facts this week and will be tested on them next week. Please help your child practice these multiplication facts throughout the week (this is the hardest test of all). In math we will continue to work on geometry studying area and volume. This will include working on a variety of "T Charts." In addition, a final geometry project will be due on Wednesday, March 19th. Guidelines for the project and the rubric will be sent home with your child on Tuesday, March 4th.
Science: Students will complete an animal report. The class will go to the library to research facts on animals for their reports.

Social Studies: We will continue a second unit on map skills. Students will learn about map coordinates, symbols, and keys.
